Matt Gatens forever!

I can't forget this  IMPORTANT tidbit....IOWA basketball has an outstanding young Senior named Matt Gatens.. Matt has had a great career at IOWA, and his last home game (barring a post season NIT or some other tourney with IOWA as a host school) will take place tomorrow, Saturday, March 3 at 1:30 at Carver Arena.. The legendary Al Grady, long time (late Al Grady) Sports Editor at the Iowa City Press Citizen, used to say, 'the bes way to watch 4 years FLY by, is when IOWA gets a good player (any sport) and the 4 years is gone in a flash"....No truer words were ever spoken by Al Grady, and they are true.. WHERE has the 4 years gone for Matt?  I sure wish we had ONE MORE year for Matt....Coach Fran has the program heading NORTH, and it would be great to have Matt back.. BUT that is selfish on my part, Matt played for 4 years. He is grown up and needs/wants (most likely) to go to another level. NBA ? Europe?  Who knows.. He's a smart kid, and whatever/wherever he goes in life,, he will be successful...
HERE is my ultimate theory:  The Gatens Family is from Coralville. Matt's grandparents Don/MaryLou lived HIGH on the big hill above the Coralville Burger King.. Take a look at the stone marker in front of Burger King on the corner.. SEE, it has the name Gatens on it...Don/MaryLou had 3 kids.. MarySue, Steve, and Mike. The Gatens kids grew up in 'Old Coralville'.. They went to Coralville Central (just Coralville Elementary back then) and on to West  High.....MarySue might have gone to City High,, I don't remember....The Gatens boys were in the mix with all the 'goins ons' in Coralville..

SO I am saying that Matt Gatens is actually a Coralville Kid by lineage.. THIS explains his excellent talent both on and off the court..His Dad, Aunt, and Uncle have, no doubt, also told him that he has Coralville 'blood' and THIS has helped in his career........................................

I know this does not sound 'right', but you can trust me,,,,,I am from Coralville and look at me!!!

Go Matt!!
