Can it be November?

Hi fellow friends...Really, can it be November.. I have always wanted to make a deal with God,,,I want him to make the Winters 'go' as fast as the Spring and Summers go.....Seriously, seems like just a couple days ago it was July 4th.. You know, HOT, sticky, sunny, bright.., long days, lots of sun..NOW look at it..It's 4:45 pm, dark, windy, mix in the air,........The kids would say, 'this weather sucks'........I agree, but not a thing to do...............But WAIT,, there were plenty of things to do when I was a kid...Rake those leaves into BIG piles, then run and leap into them. It made for better theatrics if you were a Cowboy that just got 'shot', and you fell into the pile, OR better yet, a Hawkeye scoring the game-winning TD.. THAT was the best.. I still can remember the cool smell of the leaves. Fun stuff.. On crappy days like this, not much happened, but we had 'after school' stuff..Marshall J was on, and he had the 3 Stooges,, OR we had Cub Scout meetings, or Boy Scout meetings! Man, we had it all! This was just in the Fall and Winter,, course when we hit 8th grade or so we had the Coralville Teen Center. It was open in the evenings from about 6-9 or so..Get home, do any homework, eat, and walk with a bunch of guys to the Teen Center. Bumper pool, a stack of .45 records that WE could play on the beat up old juke box, pop was .15, ping pong, and just have fun...HALF the fun was walking, talking, messing around with my friends on the way and on the way home.. I don't see kids doing that anymore. They all get a ride to school even on NICE days!!. NO WAY! Our school yard had about a million bikes in the bike racks.. Not these days....Drive past a grade school about 'let out time' and see for yourself. NO wonder kids don't know anything about puddles and how to stomp on them and get your pants wet AND the pants of your buddy!, or how to roll a big snow ball and leave it in the middle of a Coralville street while you are on your way home......or to wave at the neighbors when they drive past, then unload on their car with snowballs,,..........good innocent fun, but in my mind, part of growing up....Too bad, their loss.

About this of year I always think of 'where did the sun go'....I used to look at a globe that I had at home, and it had the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator, then the Tropic of Capricorn on it.. Do you think today's kids have a clue? I don't either, do you think they know the importance of December 21 or 22,, the equinox day?......I doubt it.......The probably think it is all controlled by Daylight Savings Time.................geez, maybe their parents don't have a clue either....Hmmm.
Well, all for now, have to go get ready to stomp in a puddle!
